Thissio is a limited small district of Athens, located to the northwest of the Acropolis, between the districts of the Observatory (south), Petralona (southwest), Kerameikos (west), Psyrri (north), and to the east Thissio borders Monastiraki and the Ancient Agora of Athens. It has been characterized as a traditional settlement. In the same area there is a rest part of the formerly small district of the Stoa of Attalos. It was named after the nearby Temple of Hephaestus, formerly called Thissio, erroneously, from the reliefs of the works of Theseus that are carried on its fronts.
